I'm a writer, researcher, photographer and filmmaker currently studying for a part-time online MA in Photography with Falmouth University. The focus of my work is common land, and have watched as my circle of movement has shrunk. Today, I was intending to visit Greenham Common. Now, even Woodbury Common, a fifteen minute drive from my home, feels like a distant island, but at least one I can still see on the skyline from the urban walks my family are making every other day. My interest for years has been the emotional and sensory attachment to place, especially green space. Lockdown is forcing me to engage with more local spaces, both personally and as a photographer, to tease out their wonders, and deepen my relationship with places I'd overlooked in favour of more conventionally beautiful areas. This is entirely a good thing.
